Maria Sibylla Merian

Maria Sibylla Merian (1647 –1717) was a German-born naturalist and scientific illustrator. She was one of the earliest European naturalists to observe insects directly. The German-born naturalist and nature artist known for her illustrations of insects and plants. Her works on insect development and the transformation of insects through the process of metamorphosis contributed to the advance of entomology. Maria was called the “Woman Who Made Science Beautiful”, unlike others who sought separation, Maria Sibylla Merian saw connection. Enjoy her unique botanic and scientific artworks:
